OUR STORY

GranTerre has always been deeply rooted in the land, embracing tradition while driving innovation and development.

Established on 1 January 2019 following the merger of two historic Italian agri-food companies, Parmareggio and Grandi Salumifici Italiani, the Group has grown into one of Italy’s leading producers of high-quality cured meats and aged cheeses. Today, under the GranTerre name, it embodies a legacy deeply rooted in Italian craftsmanship and excellence.

The name GranTerre reflects a rich heritage of people, traditions, and know-how, combined with a forward-looking approach to innovation and a strong connection with local territories and communities. It expresses a vision of growth that is mindful, responsible, and built on sustainable principles.

 

GranTerre is defined by deep respect for traditional products and an unwavering commitment to quality—values that have established its leadership role in the Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano, and cured meats supplay chains.

The ACM (AMCLC) cooperative for slaughtering and meat processing was founded in Reggio Emilia

1948

CIAM (Cooperative Industrie Alimentari Modenesi) was established as a consumer cooperative dedicated to the procurement, slaughtering, and processing of pork, as well as the sale of fresh meat and sausages

1959

The CCS (Consorzio Caseifici Sociali) dairy consortium was established. In 1966, CCS expanded its activities to include the production and ageing of Parmigiano Reggiano

1991

Unigrana S.p.A. was established for the wholesale distribution of Parmigiano Reggiano and butter 

1991

The merger of CIAM and ACM led to the creation of Unibon, a cooperative specialised in pork processing and distribution

1995

The Granterre Consortium was established, bringing together the entire Parmigiano Reggiano dairy supply chain

1999

On 1 January 1999, the Granterre Consortium integrated Fertilcoop, a cooperative with 800 hectares of land, five livestock farms, and an annual production of 10,000 tonnes of milk dedicated to Parmigiano Reggiano production

2001

Unibon entered into a joint venture agreement with Senfter, a private producer of South Tyrolean specialities, leading to the creation of Italia Salumi S.p.A.

2004

Acquisition of Parmareggio, a company focused on innovation and specialised in the processing and enhancement of Parmigiano Reggiano

2004

Acquisition of the Gasser Group, specialised in the production of Speck and Wurstel

2005

Unibon and Senfter completed the joint venture, leading to the creation of Grandi Salumifici Italiani 

2008

Acquisition of Parmissimo, a renowned company with a strong heritage in the grated cheese sector

2008

Acquisition of Fratelli Parmigiani and the Giravolte, acquired from Kraft Italia.

2009

Acquisition of GAIT (Gruppo Alimentare in Toscana)

2011

Acquisition of Alcisa, a historic and renowned Bolognese Mortadella brand

2018

Unibon acquired full ownership of Grandi Salumifici Italiani

2019

Grandi Salumifici Italiani and Parmareggio merged, leading to the creation of the Bonterre Group

2021

On 1 January 2021,  following the integration of Parmareggio, the Group acquired the Agriform S.c.a., an established leader in the production of regional PDO hard cheeses, including Grana Padano, Asiago,  and more. Agriform brings together some of the largest dairy cooperatives in the Veneto region, with more than 1,000 member farms.

2021

Consolidation of the Unibon/Granterre cooperative joint venture

2022

On 1 April 2022, Parmareggio S.p.A. became Caseifici Granterre S.p.A.

 

2023

2023: The GranTerre Group was born, one of Italy’s leading companies in the production and promotion of cured meats and hard cheeses
